VEGAN T-SHIRT
Rond mijn twintigste werd ik niet alleen veganist, ik wilde bewustere keuzes in meer aspecten van mijn leven doorvoeren. Ik stopte met het gebruik van chemische medicijnen, koos voor biologische voeding, volgens de seizoenen en wilde mijn haar, huid en huis enkel nog behandelen met natuurlijke producten. Mijn leven veranderde radicaal net als mijn kledingkast.
VEGAN T-SHIRT
Around the age of 20 I started making more conscious decisions in every aspect of my life. I became vegan, ditched chemical medicines, started eating organic and according to the seasons and chose only natural care products. My life transformed radically just as my wardrobe. I felt less and less the need to buy new clothes, started swapping, searched for unique organic and fair trade pieces and loved the hunt for that one second hand or vintage find. My clothes became more than just a garment, they became a statement and part of a bigger story I wanted to spread: that our actions, our choices create consequences. It was clear to me that how we consume shapes the future of our planet and because we have free will and the ability to make choices, we also have a responsibility. It is not enough to only buy organic, to eat plant based, to choose a bike instead of a car, to avoid plastic or to recycle. Although they all matter, we need to do it all. Nature is calling for us to do it all. And instead of this being a burden, doing it all can be a life fulfilling act and give deeper meaning to ones existence.
Meanwhile I have haven’t bought any clothing for a long time, with the exception of organic underwear and a T-shirt with a mission statement printed on the front, but have been able to do some fun exchanges with friends like vegan biker boots I had in exchange for organic pants, a scarf and a sweater.
And now I am happy to add to that list this gorgeous organic T-shirt with the statement ‘Vegan because peace starts with how we treat the most vulnerable’, designed by dear friend Anouk Hermanides. What a wonderful way to wear such a true statement… on my heart. Although I weigh carefully what I buy, this is a piece that really enriched my wardrobe, accelerating the message I hold so dear and knowing that buying it also meant an investment in Anouk, vegan, mother of 5, designer and just the sweetest soul I know.
